The SGA mourns Michael Shirk

Submitted by SGA President Tammy Herron (sgapresident@thesga.org)

Dear SGA Family,

Upon receiving the following message from SGA’s Past President Rita Elliott, I wanted to share the sad news with you all. I know that many of you knew Michael and worked with him on various SGA projects through the years.

It saddens me to tell you that Michael Shirk passed away Sunday, February 10th from cancer. As you know, he and his wife Betsy have been strong supporters of SGA. Michael moved the organization forward in massive ways and made it increasingly professional. He was treasurer for many years, bringing good accounting processes to SGA. He made monumental strides to having a website for the organization and he, along with Tom Gresham, initiated obtaining the bookmobile that is now the ArchaeoBus. Michael continued to support SGA by working at various functions of the organization until very recently and donating his time, talents, and funding.

A service of life will be held for Michael at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 16th at Johns Creek United Methodist Church. For directions to the church, please click here.
