Updates from the Golden Isles Archaeological Society

Keith Stephenson of the Savannah River Archaeological Research Team at the University of South Carolina will speak at the second meeting of the Golden Isles Archaeological Society on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at 7 pm at St. Simons Elementary School. His topic is “Preston Holder’s 1937 Excavations at the Evelyn Plantation site in Glynn County, Georgia.” The talk is free and open to the public.

Fred Cook gave the first presentation of the new Golden Isles Archaeological Society season on Tuesday, September 3, on “Late Archaic Hunting of the Turtle Creek / Brunswick River Cypress Forest.” He also updated the group on his excavations of the Kelvin Grove site on the island.
