The Eastern States Rock Art Conference will be held in the Atlanta area this coming year at Red Top Mountain State Park, located approximately 30 miles north of Atlanta. The dates will be March 27-29, which are Thursday through Saturday. The tentative schedule is for a reception and social on Thursday followed by a bus tour of local rock art sites on Friday.

Lunch will be provided during the tour. Papers will be presented on Saturday followed by business and board meetings. After the meetings will be our banquet and auction, which is always fun. Think of things to bring for the auction such as books and unusual items about any subject. For those who can stay over an extra day, there will be a special tour of one of our more remote rock art sites in north Georgia on Sunday. The group will be limited to less than ten people. There will be more information on this tour later. An information packet will be sent to all members explaining the conference site with directions to it and to local attractions along with room rates at the Red Top Mountain Lodge. A block of 20 rooms has been set aside for the conference at the lodge. The deadline for reserving these rooms will be January 27, 2009. If you want to be an early bird, the phone number at the lodge is 1-800-573-9658 or go to redtopmountain.com. Other local motels will also be listed in the info packet. Hartsfield-Jackson airport in Atlanta is the closest airport (40 miles) with Chattanooga being next (70 miles).

If you would like to give a paper at the Eastern States Rock Art Conference, your participation is welcome. Rock art, stone piles and constructions, geoglyphs, iconography, and all related subjects are welcome. As an example, I will give a presentation on serpentine stone walls in north Georgia and their relationship to the tri-level cosmos. This conference is always fun and features some of the most interesting and cutting-edge theories and hypotheses in archaeology today. For more information or to reserve a paper slot, I can be contacted at myrockart@yahoo.com or by phone at (678) 983-5333. Information on the Eastern States Rock Art Research Association can be found on their website.
