Please join us on Tuesday, February 8th at 7 PM for the regular monthly meeting of the Greater Atlanta Archaeological Society. As usual we will gather in the large auditorium at Fernbank Museum of Natural History, 767 Clifton Road NE, Atlanta, 30307.
The evening’s program will be a unique offering of several brief reports on the research projects of Fernbank archaeology interns. The students have been affiliated with Kennesaw State University and Georgia State University and over the past year have been assigned special topics that contribute to the larger Fernbank-sponsored research program related to early Spanish contact in Georgia. This will be a wonderful opportunity for the students to make a presentation before a receptive audience. The individual presentations we anticipate are as follows:
Introductions:—Dennis Blanton, Project Director, FMNH
Comparative Study of Lamar Folded Rim Sherds—Chris Glover, Georgia State University
Estimating the Archaeological Signature of a Soto Entrada Encampment from Documentary Sources—Andrew Carlin, Kennesaw State University
Re-Calibration of the Soto Route Across Southern Georgia using GIS—Wes Patterson, Georgia State University and Fernbank Museum of Natural History
Imagining the Natural Landscape of Mid-Sixteenth Century Southern Georgia—Kelly Woodard, Georgia State University
Also, please join us at 5:30 PM for an early supper at Athens Pizza, located just off Clairmont Road near its intersection with North Decatur. [Note restaurant change.]
GAAS is a Chapter of the Society for Georgia Archaeology.
