The Blue Ridge Archaeology Guild will meet Thursday, November 2, at 7:00 p.m., at the United Community Bank on Morrison Moore Parkway (Hwy 52), Dahlonega. Archaeologist Dr. James D’Angelo will speak about the nearly 12,000 year old temple at Göbekli Tepe in Turkey, which he recently visited. The ancient site has caused a revolution in our understanding of the origins of civilization and organized religion. The Göbekli Tepe presentation will include views of what may be the world’s oldest temple and discussion of its importance for archaeological and historic studies of human kind. Dr. D’Angelo has worked in Near Eastern Archaeology since 1974 in Israel and Jordan. He is currently Site Archaeologist for the Fort Daniel site in Gwinnett County, as well as Advisor for the Gwinnett Archaeological Research Society.
