The Blue Ridge Archaeology Guild (B.R.A.G.) will host Dr. Jeffrey Barron Glover as a speaker for their February 8th meeting at 6:00 PM at the Lumpkin County Parks and Recreation Center: 365 Riley Road in Dahlonega, Georgia.

Dr. Glover, an Associate Professor in the Anthropology Department of Georgia State University, is going to speak on “Exploring the hidden coast of the maritime Maya with investigations of the ancient port sites of Vista Alegre and Conil off the Yucatan peninsula.”

Dr. Glover, an undergraduate of Vanderbilt, earned his Doctorate degree from the University of California, Riverside. He has worked on projects in the Mexican states of Quintana Roo, Oaxaca and Tabasco. Dr. Glover developed “Proyecto Cosa Escondida” in 2006 and worked on projects in El Salvador and Georgia.

Quintana Roo, a Mexican state, is the home of the city of Cancún, the islands of Cozumel and Isla Mujeres, and the towns of Bacalar, Playa del Carmen and Akumal, as well as the ancient Maya ruins of Chacchoben, Cobá, Kohunlich, Muyil, Tulum, Xel-Há, and Xcaret. The Sian Ka’an biosphere reserve is also located in the state.
