Dr. David Patterson of the Biology Department at the University of North Georgia will speak to the Blue Ridge Archaeology Guild on Wednesday, April 11, at 6:00 pm. His topic will be “Human and animal adaptation in dynamic ecosystems: case studies from the fossil record of Africa and coastal Georgia.”
For much of our evolutionary history, humans were members of animal communities that were subject to the natural ebb and flow of ecosystem change. In his talk, Dr. Patterson will discuss human and animal behavioral adaptation over the past two million years in environments ranging from the rift valley of eastern Africa to the coast of southern Georgia.
A native of McDonough, Dr. Patterson graduated from Georgia College at Milledgeville, then earned his doctorate at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. His specialties are paleobiology and paleoecology, and he has worked over the past six years in Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa, and on the Georgia coast.
The Archaeology Guild meetings are free and the public is welcome to attend. They begin at 6:00 pm in the Dahlonega Parks and Recreation Building.
