The next Ocmulgee Archaeological Society (OAS) meeting will be 6:30 pm in Room 202 of the Science and Engineering Building located at 1550 College Street on the Macon campus of Mercer University. For directions to our meeting location check out the map located on our website at http:oasgroup.wix.com/archaeology but again note that we are in room 202 rather than the room number shown on the map.
This month the speaker will be"primitive skills expert" and music legend Paul Hornsby. Paul comes to us with an extensive knowledge of techniques and methods used by Native Americans in the manufacture of their tools, cordage and other items used in their daily lives. He will be sharing that knowledge with our group along with some incite into his extensive musical career. For those of you who are not familiar with Paul’s musical work, he is a member of both the Georgia and Alabama Music Halls of Fame, has played and/or produced music with Duane and Gregg Allman, The Marshall Tucker Band, Wet Willie, and many other musical legends. We really appreciate Paul for taking time out of his busy schedule to talk with our group.
Other News:
For those of you who haven’t already, this month the Georgia archaeology world lost one of its most well known and respected leaders. Archaeologist Jerald Ledbetter died after a brief illness in Athens a couple of weeks ago and will be greatly missed by all of the many who have read his works and all who have worked with him. He has helped out our OAS group numerous times with our ID days and Paleo point recordation programs and will truly be missed.
OAS shirts-Sales have been brisk for our new shirts and has given a boost to our OAS operating fund. If you have not purchased yours yet see David Mincey at the Monday meeting. They sell for $30 each and all proceeds from the sales go straight to the OAS treasury.

MIlledgeville ID Day- July 14th Indian Artifact ID Day at “The Depot” Museum located at 95 Depot Circle Drive off of Broad Street in Milldegeville from 1 to 4 pm.This location is across the street from the old Central State Hospital.
Indian Springs ID Day- October 6th Indian Artifact ID Day at the McIntosh House/Museum in Indian Springs from 12 to 4 pm.
