Saving Georgia's Dirt at CoastFest 2009

Held on the first Saturday of October on the grounds of the Coastal Resources Division of the Department of Natural Resources, at the northern foot of the stunning Sidney Lanier Bridge in Brunswick, CoastFest is an annual extravaganza of interactive exhibitions and sideshows relating to Georgia’s coastal heritage.

This means they consider large-scale topics like sociopolitical evolution and the formation of nation-states. Of course, some of the data archaeologists collect is very small and local, like the location of house posts and fire pits, and the distribution of houses in a community—for example, in a prehistoric village, as surrounded the mounds we call Etowah, near Cartersville.

The Southeastern Archaeological Conference (SEAC), in order to promote public awareness of archaeology in the Southeast, supports a program of small grants to finance public outreach projects. SEAC provides an annual grant of $2,000 to an applicant through a competitive application process.
