One of the events in celebration of Women’s History Month at Emory University in Atlanta is an illustrated lecture by Char Solomon about a pioneering historic figure, Tatiana Proskouriakoff. Proskouriakoff helped decode the Maya hieroglyphs.

The presentation will be Wednesday, March 31st, at 7 PM in the reception hall of the Michael C. Carlos Museum on the Emory campus.

The talk is entitled “A Woman in a Man’s Club: The Life of Maya Archaeologist Tatiana Proskouriakoff.” Solomon’s biography of Proskouriakoff, published by the University of Oklahoma Press, chronicles the life of this remarkable woman who, during her 50-year career, went from being a talented artist who documented ancient American archaeological sites to one of the pioneering scholars who played a vital role in decoding Maya hieroglyphs.

Copies of Ms. Solomon’s book Tatiana Proskouriakoff: Interpreting the Ancient Maya, will be available for sale, and she will sign books after the program.
